The Freedom Archives preserves the stories of Black people and communities whose accomplishments prove that freedom could be built, protected, and passed on.

We document the towns, families, teachers, nurses, business owners, musicians, organizers, and everyday people who created institutions, protected communities, and built lives of dignity—often in places history books barely mention.
